In May, , up one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month and flat compared to May 2010.
Michael Pakko, state economic forecaster with the Institute for Economic Advancement at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, told the increase was “unwelcome news.”
“This is really the high point for unemployment since the beginning of the recovery,” he said. “The number of unemployed rose to about 109,000, and that’s a new record high for Arkansas.”
Pakko said June offered conflicting signals, as payroll numbers for the month are up. Revised payroll numbers for May also are up, he said.
