CLEVELAND, Ohio — In the spirit of giving, some retailers are making donations to charity for those who patronize their businesses this week, while others are lavishing goodies on Black Friday shoppers who hit their stores first.

The offers include:

J.C. Penney will donate $50 to the Salvation Army, up to $400,000, for every shopper who adopts a Salvation Army Angel online at on Thanksgiving.

It will also donate $25 for every shopper, up to $100,000, who checks in at a J.C.Penney store via foursquare on Black Friday. The store that logs the most checks-in wins a food truck party during the last shopping weekend before Christmas.

Yours Truly Restaurants in Chagrin Falls, Medina, Mentor and Independence is serving pancake breakfasts from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving, with all donations going to local charities.

Best Buy will donate $2 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, up to $250,000, for every Facebook user who checks in at their stores through Sunday.

Sears will give free Craftsman tool bags to the first 60 shoppers who buy $20 worth of tools at its stores starting 4 a.m. on Black Friday.

Seattle’s Best Coffee is giving away 100,000 free coffee samples to those working on Black Friday and who check in on its Facebook page.

Old Navy will give away limited numbers of at midnight on Thanksgiving.

Half-Price Books will give the first 100 shoppers at its stores a tote bag and a $5 gift card starting at 7 a.m. Friday.

Great Lakes Mall in Mentor will give the first 100 shoppers at its main stage (near the Macy’s entrance) goody bags filled with samples and mall offers, starting at midnight on Thanksgiving.

Big Lots will give the first 50 customers in its stores at 6 a.m. on Black Friday a 30-inch Dakin plush teddy bear ($19.99 value) for $5.

Abercrombie & Fitch will have thousands of shirtless male models greeting shoppers at its stores at midnight on Thanksgiving.
