Because construction contractors often need to deal with a higher risk of accidents and incidents resulting to injury, loss or damage to third parties which arise from their business operations, it is important that they are able to get the right type of contractor’s liability insurance that would give them with the coverage that they need. This is why most construction contractors use a checklist of different insurance concerns so that it would be easier for them to determine whether the coverage that comes with a policy can cover all of their expectations. Here are some of the things that can be found in the coverage checklist for contractor’s general liability insurance.
Policy Inclusions: This would include basic questions about the policy and the type of coverage it provides. Some of the commercial general liability questions that can be on the coverage checklist include those which pertain to: whether contractual liability coverage is included; whether the policy has a wrap-up limitation or exclusion; if the policy dates are synchronized with the excess liability or umbrella policy; and if the policy form is claims-made or not.
Damage Coverage Protection: This is also something that should be on the coverage checklist as it would cover questions that are related to damages that may occur. Some of the questions which may be included would be: whether or not there is liability coverage for collapses, explosions or underground work related to the operations of the business which cause damages or injury to a third party; whether or not the policy includes coverage for personal injury and advertising injury; and whether or not there is enough liability coverage included to cover fires.
Business Obligations: Some of the concerns which may be included under this category would be those that pertain to the need for owners protective liability coverage, the definition of who would be the “additionally insured” in the policy and if the policy can cover business operations which are conducted overseas.
Motor Vehicle Coverage: This category in the coverage checklist would include information and concerns about the coverage of the policy for the motor vehicles owned by the company, including any watercraft and aircraft which are used for business purposes.
